Benson, Kearley & Associates Insurance Brokers Ltd. – Notice of Cybersecurity Incident
Benson, Kearley & Associates Insurance Brokers Ltd. (BK&A) takes the privacy and security of information in our care very seriously. Unfortunately, we were recently targeted by a cybersecurity incident which impacted our operations as well as some of the information we collect on our customers.
Upon discovering this incident, we promptly took steps to secure our network and prevent against further unauthorized access, including taking many of our systems offline as a precautionary measure.
We also engaged a team of third-party cybersecurity experts to investigate the cause and extent of this incident, and have retained external legal counsel to oversee our response to this incident and ensure we meet our legal obligations.
Our assessment of the full impact of this matter is ongoing. However, in the meantime we have begun notifying customers, both personal and commercial lines, who may have been impacted by this incident directly. If you are one of those customers, you should receive your notice in the mail shortly and we encourage everyone to read their notice carefully for important information about how to protect yourself and your information.
If you spoke with one of our representatives and provided them your personal information for quoting purposes but did not ultimately bind a policy with BK&A, it is possible that the information captured on that call could have been impacted by this incident. Unfortunately, we do not have a way to identify those individuals in order to notify them directly. Please note that we typically do not collect sensitive forms of personal information in this manner. Data types that would commonly be captured through this process include contact information and demographic information. In addition, we have no evidence that any information involved in this incident has been misused for any fraudulent purposes.
Since discovering this incident, we have been in consultation with our cybersecurity experts about ways to better prevent against incidents of this nature from occurring again, and are in the process of implementing enhanced security measures currently. We greatly appreciate the patience of our customers and staff as we work to implement the necessary changes to restore our regular operations.
We apologize for any inconvenience or concern this incident may cause. If you have questions regarding this incident, please contact inquiries@bkifg.com.
Sincerely,
Stephen Kearley
